• I deliberately held of from upgrading to WP 5, but recently thought i would look into it again, as there did not appear to be any “surprises” that i should take care of first.

OK the upgrade appeared to fail on the Database upgrade which, after investigation, appear to be possibly linked to the incorrect version of PHP, so i upgrade to 7.0 of PHP, but that did not resolve the issue.

I now have a site where the front end appear to work ok, but as soon as i sign into the backend i get the warning that the database must be upgraded, and when i try to do that it fails sometimes with a Server 500 error and other times with a Browser message.. the site is not reachable….. when i try to read the error logs on the server i get another error indicating that the error logs cannot be read????

I have also heard that the probably cause of my issue is linked with W£Total Cache plugin, which i now cannot disable

Any suitable suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thx

    Hello,

    Further to my first post,

I do have access to a Data Base back up of the site generated from the All in One Security plugin.

I also have a backup generated by Updraft Plus.

    Thx

If you can access your sites files via FTP (or get your hosting company to do that for you), rename the folder of W3 Total Cache and that will essentially disable it, if that’s the cause you should then be able to log in.

You can also disable all plugins by renaming the entire plugins folder.

    HI,

Thanks for that, i tried that and yes the Data Base upgrade seems to have been completed successfully

However, although the site still appears to work OK, i can no longer sign into the admin page, this was configured to use the All In One Security captcha feature, and now i have been locked out….

    Thx

    Hello,

Based on the last recommendation i renamed the All in one Security plugin.

so now i can sign into the back end. which is great thanks, but i now need to know how to effectively stop the plugin from disconnecting me as soon as i try to activate it again ??

    Thx

Now you need to have a chat with the people at All in One Security…

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall/

I’m thinking PHP 7.0 has reached it’s EOL also… Maybe an upgrade to 7.2 or 7.3 might be in order according to whatever your web host offers.

Ok, I believe i have resolved this issue, now.

I made doubly sure i had removed all aspects of W3 Total Cache, cleared Browser History etc etc, and also changed my IP via a VPN I did finally manage to get into the site and sign on with the All in One Security Captcha feature.

And all looks fine now, but need to find an alternative to W3 Total Capture as the more i read about it the more i am troubled by the extent to which is invades the Word Press set up.

    Thanks to all that assisted.
