Submenu of vertical sidebar menu not displaying properly

I hope someone can help, I have a side menu bar on the website. This is achieved by having two columns where the one used for menu is fixed and has a z-index = 1. The menu is vertical, however the submenu does not display properly (at the moment only accommodation has a submenu in the menu). The submenu disappears behind the other column which contains the content(z-index=0) or does not extend across the boundary of the column in order to display properly. You can barely see a part of the submenu at the moment when hovering over accommodation in the menu. Any ideas how to have the submenu display properly on top and extending past the boundary of the column?
