    Hey everyone. Like the title says I can login but I don’t see full dashboard. All I see is the black dashboard bar, the WordPress logo and the dashboard logo in the top left. Also the Howdy greeting and search icon in the top right. And underneath that the site homepage. When I click on the dashboard icon it refreshes and just takes me to the same page I’m on. My user permission was administrator. So did that change some how? My client is the one primarily updating and using the site. She says she didn’t update any plugin or changed anything prior to this happening. She just tried to login one day and she’s experiencing the same thing I am.

    I talked to our hosting company and they said, “There were a few issues with folder permissions in the WordPress install. And when we attempted to disable any plugins to see if it was a plugin error this didn’t resolve the issue either. At this point it looks like direct diagnosis any further is out of the scope of our support as this is an issue relating directly to WordPress.”

    I should mention this is my first post on this forum and I’m primarily a designer. I can use the theme to make the site look and function well but the backend stuff is really new to me. The theme is Divi btw. And I’m not positive but this could still be WordPress version 5.2.4.

    Thanks.

    Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

    If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

    Thanks James. If it is the theme what is the next step from there? Would reinstalling WordPress be a good option too?

    No, try this first.

    If it’s a plugin or the theme, the next step will be reach out to that plugin’s or theme’s support.

    Hey James. Unfortunately it didn’t work. Would you recommend re-installing WordPress or is there a less evasive option? Thanks.

    Yep, next step would be to try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel (consult your hosting provider’s documentation for specifics on these), and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

    Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Thanks James. I’ll let you know how it turns out.

    Hey James.

    I over-wrote the WordPress files but the same problem is there. What I did is replaced all the files in the public_html folder except the wp-content folder. Then in Chrome cleared my cache. After I put my username and password WordPress prompted me the update my Database. Which I did no problem. And now the same problem.

    I couldn’t follow the instructions you mentioned earlier because I can’t access my site so I went this route. Is there something I missed or is there something really wrong with this site now?!

    I couldn’t follow the instructions you mentioned earlier because I can’t access my site so I went this route.

    Do you mean the steps to reset plugins and the theme earlier? If so, follow the guides I linked to, there’s no Dashboard access required for them.

    I mean re-installing WordPress James. My service provider said they de-activated the plug-ins already.

    Ok, would you please use https://snipboard.io/ to share a screenshot of what you’re seeing in the Dashboard?

    Sure here you go.

    So this is all I see of the back-end of this site.

    So you’re saying if you go to https://villayouville.ca/wp-admin/ it just redirects you to the front of your site?

    Overall, it looks like your account may have lost admin privileges for some reason.

    If you are not using Multisite, access your database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in your hosting account’s control panel), go to the wp_users table and find the row for your user_login. Note the ID of this row. Now, go to the wp_usermeta table and find the wp_capabilities row for your user_id. Set the value of this row to:

    a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}

    (@neildr)

    Followed your steps James and it didn’t work unfortunately. This was the code in that row: a:2:{s:13:”administrator”;b:1;s:9:”translate”;b:1;}

    (@macmanx)

    Are there any other Administrators on the site? Can they log in without issue?

    Thread Starter neildr

    (@neildr)

    They have the same issue I am.
