I’m trying to get the Spotless photo blog ( https://fivebyfive.com.ar/wp-themes/spotless/#download ) running with WordPress 2.8.4. I’m slowly getting there, but have a small query – and I think that the spotless forum is no longer active.

In the “how to post” section, the author says “Create a page called “Archive” using “Archives” as the default template. This will show all the thumbnails and both monthly and categories archive.” But when I downloaded the theme, there were two files already included, one called archive.php and the other called archives.php. Does anyone know if:

    1. I leave things as they are?
    2. Delete one of them and rename it?
    3. Or something else that I haven’t thought of?

    Thanks for any advice. Seoirse

  • 1. Leave things as they are.

archive.php and archives.php are two very different template files and you need both of them. The latter file is a custom page template and will (I think) create a list of the various archives on a site within a static Page.

I’ve uploaded one picture at full size and as a thumbnail to experiment with. I can find the main shot, but clicking on the archive link I get a “404 Not Found error”

So, I tried step 2, but still get the same error and so I’ve re-installed both files again. Thanks to your help at least I know that’s not the problem. I’ll take a look at the Spotless forum again and see if I can find alternative answers.

    Thanks for your help esmi.
