• I have been running a blog that is hosted by Aplus.net for 4 months.

Today, while I was working in the Admin panel, the blog suddenly disappeared. The “install” screen now appears at my public URL…

I’m trying to decide if this is the fault of my host — because if it is, I really need to move the blog.

When I contacted Aplus.net tech support, I was told

“more than likely something functioned wrong either in the control panel or in wordpress, and it overwrote your database.”

I have no plugins currently installed. At that time this happened, I was in the General Settings, about to change my blog’s tagline. Previously, I had deleted about 100 old “spam” comments. I can’t imagine these chores would cause the database to be overwritten, unless WordPress has a bug I never heard about, or the host did something to my files.

If you have any insight as to how a database gets overwritten in such a circumstance, let me know.

I am also open to suggestions on a good host for WordPress.

  • I’m not aware of anything with WordPress that would completely empty an entire database. I think your hosting providers are telling porkies…

Hi – I’d like to look into this issue more for you and see if we can find a resolution. Please email your details to marketing (at) aplus.net and I’ll escalate your problem.

Hah. Nothing like some bad PR in the WP forums to get action!

Your DB got “disappeared;” it’s a good idea to have a backup.
