• Of course if there is no Apache there is no .htaccess file.

Most of the “site hardening” benefits of this plugin are delivered by it writing rules to the .htaccess file itself.

SO… how can we make this plugin work on an NGINX environment?

  • According to the Compatibility section on the iTSec plugin page:

Works with Apache, LiteSpeed or NGINX (Note: NGINX will require you to manually edit your virtual host configuration)

To prevent any confusion, I’m not iThemes.

    HI,

The following features need to write to the NGINX.conf file.

Everything in the Banned Users settings

    Reduce Comment Spam

    Protect System Files

    Disable Directory Browsing

    Disable PHP in Uploads

    Disable PHP in Plugins

    Disable PHP in Themes

I hope that info is helpful.

    Thanks,

    Matt

iThemes Security plugin would write to the nginx.conf in the html folder of the site server. Then you would need to reload NGNIX.
