Changing Column width pushes text to the left

I am trying to increasing the main column width in my blog. However every time I do so it pushes the shopping cart widget I have on the right hand side of my main page to the very bottom. The reason I want to increase the main column width is so that the text on my other pages will take up more of the screen. I would really appreciate any advice.
