Subdomain : for staging new site

I want to create a subdomain to create a new website, while keeps the current one active. Once I am happy with the new site I want to migrate it over to the main domain.
I created a subdomain and installed wordpress through my hosting provider. When I go to subdomain.domain.com it shows the Hello World main WP page (working correctly). When I try to login at subdomain.domain.com/wp-login.php or subdomain.domain.com/wp-login/ I get a 404 error.
Do I need to purchase a new WP account for this subdomain? Is there something else going on? Do I need to wait longer for the TTL to become effective? I have not done anything further than what I mentioned above. Thanks for your help.

Do you use a CDN? If you’re running through cloudflare for example it needs to be added.
I am doing the same with my site Libra Photographic where I have a staging sub domain test.libraphotographic
After creating the subdomain I ran into the same issue until I added the sub domain cname on cloudflare.Hope that helps
