• Just thought I’d give a heads up to anyone who uses the trencaspammers plugin.

Have a look at this post on my website, and the comments which have been posted there:

    https://www.cosmicvibes.net/index.php?p=52

This may well be of concern to anyone who uses the trencaspammers plugin, though I have no idea what it is all about.

    Yet.

EDIT: To those who have received this particluar comment spam, you will see there is a link to Gudlyf’s AuthImage plugin. I wouldn’t be so quick to assume it was him though (I believe he’s innocent).

Indeed the comments on my site have multiple IP addressess which resolve to many different places, so he is either spoofing or possibly using a legion of zombified windows machines (computers infected with trojans) to co-ordinate attacks on blogs at predifined times, very much like the DoS attacks seen elsewhere.

  • I got about 50 of these myself. Who ever the idiot is, he’s too stupid to get his English right too.

Gudlyf has posted on his site that he has nothing to do with this. I feel sorry for him. I’m willing to bet he’s gotten some abuse from some angry folks out there.

For now, just turn on your blacklist and add “gudlyf” to it.

Spamming with trencaspammers is possible due to a customized script that knows the name of one of the files that run the plugin. Once this file or attribute is renamed, the script would have to be customized by the spammer to spam your blog (which is unlikely).

I can’t search right now but I read it here. Try searching for it and see. Hopefuly you’ll find it and let us know (I also use trencaspammers). I’ll come back when I can search and I’ll post the link to that thread if I find it.

    UPDATE:

Here’s the thread I was talking about:

Cheers for that alpha, I didn’t realise trencaspammers had that problem, it seems somewhat of a design flaw to say the least! I think I’ll look elsewhere.

https://mookitty.co.uk/devblog/ and look for Kitten’s Captcha.
