• I have about 15 client websites that I maintain and keep up to date. I just saw the notification to update to 5.3.1. All of the sites I maintain are currently up-to-date on 5.3.

I clicked the Update button on one site, and it down-graded the wp core to 5.2.5.

I haven’t seen any error messages, or anything indicating that anything is going wrong. It just downgrades of my wp installs to 5.2.5.

This has happened on three websites so far this morning. Two of them, after refreshing the page, going back to the Updates page, and updating a couple plugins, brought me to the “upgrading database” page, and then finally showed 5.3.1 as the current version. The other one is stuck on 5.2.5. I’ve tried updating the wp core on that site five times now, and it keeps installing 5.2.5.

Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? It’s pretty frustrating!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

are these all on the same host?

Let me know how do you handle the 15 sites? Are you using any service like ManageWP/MainWP or manually one by one (single site)?

You can try this, first, deactivate all of the plugins and set the theme to “Twenty Seventeen or Twenty or any default WordPress theme”.

Then try again to upgrade the WordPress core.

@sterndata – I have these all hosted on two separate Linode servers, self-hosted. The servers themselves were updated right before this happened.

@fahimmurshed – I was updating these sites by logging in to each and running the built-in updates.

Interestingly, each time this happened, I would try again, and it didn’t work. But after waiting about 15 minutes, reloading the wordpress admin, I got the database update screen, and the sites finally updated to 3.5.1. So, all of the sites were finally updated, but I’m still confused as to why this happened.

Glad to know you fixed that and solved automatically ??
