• With both themes Ascend and Virtue, when I edit a post, the Gutenberg editor does not correctly use the colors defined in the theme settings.

For Ascend: it uses the text colors, but the background is always white. This is difficult for dark background in the theme where text is light, resulting in light text on white in the editor.

For Virtue: text in the editor is always near black (very dark gray) on white background. May be editable in most cases, except when using a GROUP block with dark background surrounding the paragraph block.

Did anyone notice same and maybe found some solution?

  • Hey,
Yeah using a dark background could be a better experience. I’m not sure making Gutenberg have a dark background is the best option because of the tools and interface largely depend on the default white. I’ll think about this. Probably just remove the paragraph color inherited from the theme options in Gutenberg, then add an option to the theme to turn it on along with the background color so the site creator can choose.

Just to make note you can use Kadence Blocks, row layout. with the row layout-block you can define text color for all the paragraph text inside that block.

    Thanks Ben !

Just fyi: for reference, the WP standard theme “Twenty Twenty” does indeed utilize the configured theme colors in Gutenberg. Interesting enough: those “plus” symbols (to add blocks here and there) are shown in white instead of black when the background is dark.

Most other themes (even Virtue) stay with black on white independent from theme settings. The problem with Ascend is, that is uses the text color from the theme, but not the background color. (A quick/interim fix here could be to adopt the behaviour from Virtue)

Letting the site creator choose is a nice idea.

Thanks for your quick support and hinting row layout block. Nice!

I am facing the same problem like this.
Please leave a simple tutorial to change the inherit function.

    Hi @kenshin004,
Are you using Ascend theme? Can you provide a link to your site?
