font awesome icon showing up as square

  • Pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I have two social icons on my page, under my header photo. They were working months ago when I set the site up but now only one of them appears (the linkedin icon).

    The other icon, supposed to be fa-envelope, shows up as a square. I’ve tried changing it to another icon but it won’t show up, either. The link works but the image shows up as a square.

    Very very grateful if someone can point me in the right direction. I’m using Slanted theme and updating the social icons through the theme customization.

    Any help is much appreciated. I’m not great with CSS so the more basic the instructions the better. Thanks in advance.

  • no expert here, but i can’t find anything wrong in css, network requests, etc

    just as a test i changed the icon to "\f0e1" and i get an icon, so i’m wondering if the icon you selected in your theme actually exists? can you see it on the backend in t=your theme settings? and if so, make sure it’s the same icon on the front ( "\f0e0" ) as it is on the back

    i understand your theme provides these icons? if so, i’d contact the developer

    if you want to try another plugin for social icons, i might recommend Shariff Wrapper which i think is a very good, light and ethical plugin

    Many thanks for the reply. I still couldn’t figure it out. I kept trying different icons until I found one that works. Oh well.
