Function to ensure my changes remain even after update?

Is there a way to make a (mu) function to replace content (text) on a specific language? I have loco translate and I read if the Theme updates I would lose all my edits, but is there a way to make a function to target a specific word in a specific language translation? This way, even if the file is updated, the function will still replace the streams for me.
Is this possible?
Solved: I didn’t realize custom is Loco’s protected folder under “wp-content/languages/loco/” which is safe from automatic updates.
