Newbie to WordPress..please help

Hi All!
I’ve inherited a website, I’ve got a problem with IE8 and hoping there’s a simple fix out there..

Everything appears to work fine in Safari and firefox but when it comes to internet explorer..all down hill. I’ve had to play around with the drop down menus to get them to appear properly in IE and now the text on the page seems to over lap and is larger than it should be? Any ideas would be much appreciated…
