• Ok, this is going to sound really dumb. We would like to send out a newsletter to the subscribers on our site. So far so good. But I haven’t the faintest idea how to go about it. I did download a plugin but it’s just saved a zip file on my pc and I’m damned if I know what to do with it!

We have around 300 subscribers and are aiming for 1,000. It’s a migration website and we’d just like to send out a newsletter once a month to inform them what’s new on site.

As you can gather, I haven’t a clue about coding so I need it explained step by step please. And if you help me out, you’ll have a nice warm feeling inside and good karma coming your way, so it’s gotta be worth it, right?

  • Unzip the file. There should be installation instructions either in the unzipped file or on the plugin’s homepage. But for many plugins all you do is upload the unzipped file to your webserver placing it in wp-content/plugins. Then you go into wp-admin to the Plugins section and activate the plugin. If you have trouble, come back.

Before you do this, though, you might want to check with your web host about how they feel about newsletters. Some hosts do not allow them– at least not through their mail servers. Maybe your plugin uses a different server.
