Feed not updating after product changes even though set to refresh hourly

I’ve set up my first Google Shopping feed with WPFM. I got it looking right and checked the output. Finally I added another field to the feed for color, using a custom field. I then added a value to this field for one product, re-published the feed and it looked good.
Next I updated the custom field values for all my other products. I do not want to re-publish the feed though – I thought the changes would be pulled in within an hour since my feed is set to update hourly. I’m not seeing any updates however after half a day. The timestamp on the feed is still the last time I published it. Shouldn’t the feed update itself after 1 hour and bring in the new color values?
What am I missing?
PS. In case it matters, this is on a multisite install
