    I am working on a website for a local organization, and I was preparing to publish a privacy policy page. I was in Settings > Privacy and I selected “Create new page.” I didn’t even fully publish the privacy policy page before I realized that I had a problem.

    I realized that my original front page was no longer formatted with my theme’s front page presets. The “home” page that I built with the customizer is now just a default page with some text and a heading. The URL of the site now points to a default home page with a list of recent blog posts.

    When I go to Settings > Reading to try to re-select a static front page instead of one with recent blog posts, there is no such option available. It seems like most of the settings in the reading tab are no longer there.

    This obscure problem is very frustrating as I have a deadline approaching for the site and I was going to be done early. Now I am set-back and I might be finished late. Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

  • Hi @jdurdach

    Man, that stinks! Sorry. Have you tried going to Settings -> Permalinks and clicking “Save” at the bottom of the page?

    I’m also curious how you already knew there was a problem before even saving your privacy policy page?

    Thanks for a quick response!

    I navigated to Settings > Permalinks and pressed “Save Changes.” That didn’t really change anything.

    Right before creating the privacy policy page, I played around with some blog post settings and even made a demo blog post. That was the first and only blog post on the site. Do you think that creating a post may have somehow changed the permalink settings?

    Let me know! I’m newer at this and the idea of losing my front page is stress-inducing to say the least.

    You had a front page set up and it was working. Sounds like you even had a page displaying your recent blog post, also. I typed “wordpress reading settings gone” into Google and came up with this: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/readin-setting-missing-your-homepage-displays/ It’s worth reading to the end for some good ideas of things to double check. Do you have at least one page published (not draft, not private)?

    This link had some useful information, but you solved it for me when you reminded me to set a page as public first! I had all of the pages set as private (currently in final stages of design) and making the home page public allowed me to access the settings an re-select the desire page!

    Thank you so much!

    @jdurdach,

    That’s great to hear! Happy building!
