I would like to use the backup of a WordPress website from one Macintosh computer to move its contents to another computer. My question is what does the backup install?

Does it just install files in the wordpress website directory? Or does it also install files in the MySQL directory?

In addition, I am using WP Tables-Reload to create tables in my website. It doesn’t look as if that gets backed up. Does anyone have any experience with it?

Thanks in advance for any help,

    John Kendrick

  • WordPress is comprised of MySQL tables, scripts, and your uploads.

The MySQL tables hold your posts, pages, users, comments, categories, tags. See Backing_Up_Your_Database to learn how to back those tables up. See Restoring_Your_Database_From_Backup to learn how to restore those tables.

The scripts are the WordPress programs, your themes, and plugins. Usually you use FTP to download those files to your local PC to act as a backup.

The uploads are images and things you upload–typically called Media. Use FTP to back those up to your local machine.

Not sure if WP Tables Reloaded create database tables, but if it does, then they should get backed up when you backup your database.
