    HI

I recently configured your plugin with minification enabled, as every site speed test I have done has prompted me to minify my images as they were significantly slowing the loading of my site.

Several days later when I checked my Woocommerce store (I don’t go there every day), I saw to my shock and horror that my catalog product images where blown out by about 4 times the size, and the product page images were huge over 3/4 of the screen. Changing the WC settings did not make any difference.

I have done all troubleshooting I possibly could, and finally asked my theme developer for help. He said that my W3 Total Cache minification was causing this.

He was right – as soon as I disabled minification all images went back to normal.

    1. How come a caching plugin is able to affect the display on the live site?
    2. Minification is meant to decrease the size of the image, not increase it. Why did this happen?
    3. What are the correct minification settings (which is an important feature) that will prevent any changes to the images on the live site?

I would appreciate your advice as this is completeley counter-intuitive.

    Hello @magicpowers

I am sorry about the issue you are experiencing and I am happy to assist you with this.
Can you please share your website URL?
Also, can you re-enable Minify, save all settings and purge the cache, and go to Performance>Minify and disable the settings one by one, save all settings and purge the cache after each setting is disabled and see which option might be causing this. Start with CSS minify.
Also, is Lazy loading enabled? And if so do you have any other Lazy loading plugin? Thank you!
    Thank you!

    Hi @vmarko

    many thanks for your reply.

I will test the various minification settings on my staging site.
No, I don’t have Lazy loading enabled and don’t have any Lazy loading plugins.

I configured the (very comprehesive) settings of your plugin based on the article recommended by you which goes step by step through all the settings.

Since there is one (or more) minify settings that cause this issue – does it mean that minification can’t be safely enabled without an extensive site testing?

    thanks

    Hello @magicpowers

Can you please share your website URL?
Also can you please share which minify setting might be causing this? Are you using any other caching/minify plugin?
    Thank you!

    hi @vmarko

I haven’t had a chance to run those tests yet – I will share the results here.

    My website is https://www.quantumliving.com.au/

I do not use any other caching plugins.

    thanks

    Hi @vmarko

so what did you find out on my website? why did you ask me for the url?

Are you aware of this issue and which minification settings are causing it?

    thanks

    Hello @magicpowers

I was trying to see if something might be causing conflict and how those images are injected. This is why I asked to do disable the settings one by one to see which setting might be causing this. There is a possibility that some files need to be excluded from minifying.
But that depends if the issue is with injected JS or CSS styling. Or possible HTML minify if something is removed.
    Thank you

    hi @vmarko

ok. I made only one change that helped straight away – unticked Enable minify in General Settings. So the full minify option is disabled on my site.

I will run tests on my staging site over the weekend and will let you know the results.
    thanks

    Hello @magicpowers

Yes, I understand that. But we need to narrow down the cause of the issue.
Thank you for your help and please let us know the test results.

    I haven’t forgotten!

sorry I didn’t have a chance to test it yet, I’ve been too busy with other priority stuff.

Will do so in the next 2-3 days and will post the results here, as promised.

just give me more time please!

    hi @vmarko

ok, I found the culprit setting:

the ONLY setting I had to change is minify from auto to manual. That’s it. I have all minification enabled – html, JS, CSS. I double checked it by changing back to Auto – and my product images got huge again.

So I just need to keep it on MANUAL. Don’t know why this makes any difference, but I’m sure you will investigate it ??

I have duplicated this on my live website and it’s working fine.

    thanks!
