The new v6.0 free version of this plugin is some of the most upsell-heavy nonsense I have seen in a previously useful free plugin. Prior to this, GADWP/Exact was my goto on any site and what I recommended as a time-saver over Google Tag Manager or more technically complex implementations.

Now, the real-time, page, daily and other traffic breakdowns are all locked behind a $100/PER YEAR/PER SITE paywall! The UI is also cluttered with “PLEASE GIVE US MONEY TO GET BACK PREVIOUSLY FREE FEATURES” nonsense.

And that’s without even touching the fact that the plugin asks for more invasive permissions, including direct access to the Google Account and other high-level access.

All in all, in the span of one update, this has gone from an incredible plugin to one you should NEVER USE AGAIN.

UPDATE: The developer behind this garbage update is a partner in Awesome Motive, a shady company that makes a regular practice of buying plugins and ruining them. MonsterInsights, All in One SEO Pack, WPForms, and ExactMetrics/GADWP are all owned by this same group.

I was as upset as you and everybody else, I was even more upset at the fact that I apparently couldn’t find an alternative, I also didn’t find anyone in the comments offering one, I FINALLY found something that does the same thing, and… it’s free! I would have liked someone to share a solution with me, so I’m doing just that with some of you guys, spread the word, here’s the app’s name:
GAinWP Google Analytics Integration for WordPress

I looked into that, and it seems that it has not been updated in some time. I’m loathed to trust anything that’s not actively being developed. I appreciate trying to spread awareness, but I would caution anyone against using an out-of-date plugin.
