• Hi
I dont seem to have the option to upload a photo on the profile page or on general settings. I have the latest edition of wordpress. Im sitting here with my “wordpress for dummies” and it’s there in black and white – just not on my screen!
    Can anyone shed any light?
    Cheers

  • I am holding my copy of the Second Edition “WordPress for Dummies” in my hand as I write this. The Profile Page is shown on two different pages: Page 48 and Page 152. Only Page 48 shows a photo.

BUT only Page 152 applies to the WordPress that you have installed. Page 48 describes using WordPress.com, which is a free place you can do a somewhat limited WordPress blog.

I still can’t figure this out. I’ve used WordPress for my WordPress blog, and it’s a cinch, but use it as a content management system for your individual website, and it kinda sucks. Has anyone figured this out?

You’re trying to give your profile an avatar? Use gravatar.

Otherwise, I have no idea what you’re asking.

I don’t do any blogging, and picked WordPress as my CMS of choice for all my web sites. Even before I discovered all the great plug-ins that make it a lot easier to do CMS “type stuff”.

Admittedly, I’m not scared of php or MySQL. But as time passes and I discover more WordPress capabilities and plug-ins that I was previously unaware of, I find myself removing more of my own “hand-built” php code than I’m adding.

It is kind of like Excel or OO Calc: it looks almost simplistic at first glance. But there is a lot of capabilities “under the covers” once you start digging.
