If a author adds a custom HTML block, it will not be displayed. Why is this?

Author level accounts generally are not allowed to add arbitrary HTML code to posts. Only Editors or Administrator accounts have that permission by default.

Authors are allowed some basic HTML, things like em and strong and so on, but things like scripts are forbidden to them. If somebody needs to be able to do that, make them an Editor or above.

Note that this is a security risk, the ability to add any HTML they like gives them very great amounts of control over the site. It’s sort of the ultimate power available.
