“Connection Information” Problems

  • I’m using 2.8.5, but had the same prob with 2.8.4. Whenever I try to delete/add a plugin (as well as upgrading wordpress) I get the “Connection Information” page. The problem is that I don’t know exactly what to put in. I’m using Xtreemhost’s free hosting and a Co.CC domain. On the VistaPanel, my ftp hostname is: https://ftp.xtreemhost.com

    However, the MySQL hostname is: sql200.xtreemhost.com

    Whenever I put in the ftp hostname, I get the error “Unable to locate WordPress Content directory (wp-content).”

    When I put in the MySQL hostname, I get the error “Failed to connect to FTP Server sql200.xtreemhost.com:21”

    I don’t think the MySQL is supposed to work, but why doesn’t the ftp hostname?

    Both the user and password for the FTP and MySQL are the same (for now.)

    I think the problem has to do something with that the home path of the wordpress directory is /home/vol10/xtreemhost.com/xth_4361650

    What do I do?

  • you do use the ftp info but in reality most free hosts don’t allow this
    ask your host if they do

    I can access my website from FileZilla via FTP, just not when I’m in my admin panel for wordpress.

    right – most free hosts won’t allow the ftp connection from a script

    I’m pretty sure Xtreemhost does. I think the problem is that the files are in a directory that wordpress can’t find – how do I change that?

    WordPress is install under a directory – it isn’t in the root. When it accesses the ftp, it doesn’t know where to find the plugin/theme/core folders.

    How do I fix this problem?

    it knows where to find them from the paths created when you set it up
    if your url’s are correct in
    admin – settings – general
    wordpress knows where to look

    I have 8 different blogs in sub directories – no problem doing the auto upgrade

    you really need to check with host if they even allow this

    In my case, I’ve just pasted the code on the last line of wp-config.php

    I don’t know if the below information is really required, but here is what I informed:

    Host: ftp://name.com.domain

    Login: same as used to access CPanel (ask the service provider if you have any doubt).

    Password:     same as used to access CPanel.

    It works for version 2.8+, as seen in the site above.

    I have the same issue as you with upgrading or uploading a theme with xtreamhost.
    Did you finally changed the hosting???

    I have tried the same as you, but also adding or editting the wp_config.php as others suggested… But nothing :S

    Please, could you tell me if you has fixed the problem and how?

    I am on a different host (goDaddy) with a vitual dedicated servers. -So no on their public servers-. I have been having the same issues as well. I must say it is rather frustrating. The issues seem to revolve around plug-in’s and upgrades. Please if any of you find resolution to your issues, if you can post those resolutions because I suspect that we are not the only ones having these issues.
