    Hi everyone,

I am struggling with a problem, in which I am trying to group specific categories together, and trying to have them displayed under different captions in the sidebar. Currently, the category widget simply lists all available categories, such as the following:

    Widget Caption
    Category 1
    Sub Category 1
    Sub Category 2
    Sub Category 3
    Category 2
    Sub Category 4
    Sub Category 5
    Sub Category 6

However, since my website is based on 2 larger topics, I would like to split the two main categories and have the following layout on the sidebar:

    Widget Caption 1
    Sub Category 1
    Sub Category 2
    Sub Category 3

    Widget Caption 2
    Sub Category 4
    Sub Category 5
    Sub Category 6

Does anyone know how to achieve this? I have been looking for several plugins, but the ones I found did not serve my needs. Also, I know nothing of PHP programming.

    Thanks.

  • 1) have you created those categories with a parent, where caption 1 is the parent of subcat 1-2-3 and caption 2 is the parent of subcat 4-5-6?

If not, go to the category edit section, create parent categories and assign that cat as the child cat’s parent.

    2) If that doesn’t solve the issue, install this plugin
    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/widgets-reloaded/
which gives you a lot more control over how your categories are arranged.

Yes, I have created different parents with sub-categories, but both parents and sucats are simply shown in one single thread under “categories”; instead I want to use one category widget for first parent category, and another category widget for the second parent category.

I tried out the widgets reloaded, but it somehow does not work properly; or I don’t know what to do in order to show only the subcats of one single parent category.

    Thanks.

    Hi

Add two Widgets Reloaded category widgets to the one sidebar. In the first one under Child Of, put the category ID of the Widget Caption 1 category. In the second one, under Child Of, put the category ID of the Widget Caption 2 category. I just tested this here and it worked as intended.

You can add whatever titles you like in the appropriate fields.
