    Hello! ??

    I want to be able to see how many products we have sold for a specific product category.

    When I am in Google analytics and go to the report Conversions – E-commerce – Overview, and I click on a Product category to make it my primary dimension I can see a lot of statistics, however all of the different categories with data are categories that have been lumped together.

    For example we sell a rotisserie that can be found under the main category “grill accessories” and the subcategory “grill sets and rotisseries” but I can not view statistics for ONLY the main category, all I can see is statistics for “grill accessories/grill sets and rotisseries”.

    I unfortunately cannot provide a screenshot here to show you but hopefully you understand my problem.

    So what I am wondering is Why is this, and how can I fix it?
    Maybe one product can not be be part of more than 1 product category for your reporting to end up correctly in analytics?

    In Woocommerce all of the product categories are separate from each other so I don’t understand why they get lumped together in Google Analytics.
    I also contacted Woocommerce regarding this and they told me to speak to the developers of the analytics plugin I am using, as they suspect it is a reporting problem.

    Hope you can help me ??

    Hi @isabella92,

    As you may be knowing the product categories on an ecommerce store follow a Tree Map like structure.

    Like the below:

    Main Category -> Category1 -> Subcategory1.1 -> Product1…n
    | |-> Subcategory1.2 -> Product1…n
    | :
    | |
    |-> Category2 |-> Subcategory2.1 -> Product1…n
    | |-> Subcategory2.2 -> Product1…n
    : :

    So there are levels to categorize products in various product categories.

    You may find products sold which belong to a specific level of product category in Product Performance report, Please refer this screenshot.

    I hope this resolve your query.

    Regards.

    Hello!

    Thanks so much for your reply. I did go ahead and check in the product performance report as well, as your screenshot suggested, unfortunately my issue still remains.

    Product category level 1 and product category (enhanced ecommerce) show the same thing: which is product categories lumped together.

    If I choose product category level 2 it just shows the name of the product.

    (the other levels, 4 and 5 just show “not set”)

    Some categories I can see on their own, like for example “gasolv?rmare” (= gas heaters), which is probably because most products in this category ONLY belongs to this category. However I do have a few products that are part of this category and some other categories, but I suspect their statistics are not accounted for when looking at the product performance for “gasolv?rmare” category, although I can’t be sure.

    I dont know but I kinda get the sense that the statistics for these lumped product categories are still product-specific.

    I also had a look at the data layer values after making a purchase, and I can see that when buying a bbq brush which belongs to 2 categories (grill accessories and cleaning supplies), it is sending over “cleaning supplies” as the category.

    I went to edit the product page and I could see that I have put the cleaning supplies as PRIMARY category as well.

    Now I am able to see a category in Google analytics called “grill accessories, cleaning supplies”, but no category is called just “cleaning supplies” or “grill accessories”.

    Maybe the only way to see statistics for the main category Grill accessories, is to have all products in that category have that as Primary?
