• I have searched this over and over and over. All the supposed fixes including using Plugins which I don’t have as I have the free version, for starters.

    Second, all I did was make a second (brand new) site. Clearly whatever is going on was not going on / active when I very first signed up with the first site. It is completely different. I can’t understand anything. I can’t just type in a box, it’s got stuff all over the place and no clear way to type or order things will be in. I tried to pick a theme to see if it looked more understandable and things got even worse.

    I use the plain text version not code btw.

    I assume that I am now on the block editor and I guess the old version was called the classic version. I already followed some links to switch back but the options aren’t the same (maybe .org vs .com problems? I get mixed up)

    One time on my old site it said there was something new to try, I think the block editor so I tried and it was horrendous and unusable and immediately switched back. With this current one apparently as the default, I cannot see anything at all, let alone how to potentially switch back.

    If I don’t get back I will have to shut it down and not use wordpress anymore. What a joke. Does anyone know? I don’t get all the talk about plugins. (Also one page says this looks like the classic editor, while that would be better, I need the original as I simply cannot and will not use it at all)

    NOTE: After much searching as well, I finally found out my blogs are .com and I don’t understand the difference and keep getting mixed up. Like for example why does it say .org at the top of this page? And why is it in my website address name when it has “powered by wordpress.com at the bottom” All a big joke really. I’m about done trying to use it.

  • Trying to switch to the Classic Editor without a plugin is highly inadvisable.

    Here is a link to the Classic Editor:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/classic-editor/
    You can download it from that page and upload it to your site.

    If you are inside of your /wp-admin/ area and you go to Plugins -> Add New, then you can search “Classic Editor”.
    Just make sure that the author for the plugin is “WordPress Contributors” so that you can get the right one.

    Why is it highly inadvisable? I don’t have $200 just to use plugins. Why can nobody understand English? I CANNOT USE PLUG INS. I do not have any. Am I missing something here??

    Please just delete your post if you can’t answer it. Or explain how I’ll find hundreds of dollars I don’t have just to use a basic feature I used before for FREE before this change.

    Oh I shouldn’t have said revert as I’ve never saw it in this new website

    Why can you not use the free Classic Editor plugin? That’s how one disables the new Block Editor. If it’s a philosophical objection to plugins, you can write your own code to do it, though a vetted and verified plugin is the better solution.

    All plugins in the www.ads-software.com repository (including the one I linked you to) are absolutely free.

    If your host does not allow you to install plugins, that is a different matter. One no one on these forums can assist you with.

    you seem to be with WordPress.com which is different from WordPress.org;

    Thankyou Michael. I am so confused.

    All I know is that I cannot use ANY plug ins. Every time I do it asks me to sign up to a business account and yes, for free ones too. For any USE of them. So to answer the person above, no I don’t object to them, I would use them if I could, although I am actually seeking how to change the default features so that no tinkering of anything is required.

    The main problem here is people not listening to what I say. So constant “advice” to do exactly what I just said I cannot do is infuriating, even though I put the key factor (free) in my title. Thankyou for being the one to figure out what was going on, although I did try to make sure I wasn’t in the wrong place myself, and mentioned my confusion about org. vs .com

    Can people please keep this in mind in future. I will head on over and hopefully get an answer finally!

    Before I leave, can one use www.ads-software.com for free or does it always cost some money?

    This is even stranger as I specifically avoided it due to not wanting a host and all that confusion. thanks for the direct link too.

    it is not www.ads-software.com that costs, using the software is free, but you will usually need to buy a domain name and pay for hosting the site, and you will more or less be self-responsible for backup, updating, etc;

    also, themes for www.ads-software.com, although they might seem to be the same, often have less customization options as on WordPress.com.

    here is an article which tries to explain the difference between WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com – https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
