I downloaded the WP approved Tip Jar plug-in.
Upon activatation the plug-in took my whole site and admin area offline with an HTTP 500 error code.

As I cannot access my admin account I can’t switch the plug-in off.

    Please help ASAP.

Hey there! I’m so sorry to hear that happened to you! There are about 100 other websites using Tip Jar WP daily to process tips and donations successfully, so it looks like something unique happened in your case. I would love to help you get that resolved!

It sounds like your server may be running an old version of PHP, or perhaps WordPress, or maybe even both.

Tip Jar WP requires PHP 7.0 or later. If you are running an older version, this could happen.

I will be happy to work with you on resolving this in our support forum here on www.ads-software.com! Let’s get it working for you!

Do you know which version of PHP your server is using? If not, you can reach out to your Web Host and they can confirm that for you. Let me know!

One other possibility is that you may not have an SSL certificate installed. Tip Jar WP requires a valid SSL certificate, in order to ensure connections to Stripe are properly secured.

I noticed you linked to your page (https://tuneriver.com) without using “https”, but used “http” only. This is what makes me wonder if that might be the case.

You’ll want to reach out to your webhost to confirm that they have installed your SSL certificate. Most webhosts do this for free now. Ask them about “LetsEncrypt” if they try to charge for you it.

Another side benefit of this is that Google appears to be ranking websites with SSL certificates higher than ones that do not. For reference:

    Hey there,

I just wanted to follow up with you here after we spoke on the WordPress Slack.

You had mentioned that some unique/bespoke features on your site were preventing this from properly working. It sounds like you were able to get your site back online though! If it sounds good to you, I am going to mark this ticket as resolved.

If you have any other questions for us about Tip Jar WP, please reach out with another ticket here on the WP support forums, or via email directly, and we’d love to help you!
