I have a plugin installed called User Role Editor. I would love to give one of my User Roles permission to view and work broken links. Do you know if there is a way to do that or what it would look like to add that capability?

    Hi @jjones37

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

To allow full access to Broken Link Checker a user/user role would have to have “manage_options” capability granted so that would also give them access to other WP settings.

There’s no any other “special” capability and it can’t be added without making changes in plugin’s core code. However, you can actually grant access to only the dashboard widget and the “Tools -> Broken Links” page where broken links are listed.

Out of the box, that can be granted to either Administrators only or to “Editors and above” and you can change it on “Settings -> Link Checker” page in “Advanced” section.

Unfortunately, adding another capabilities there would, again, require changes in plugins core code or editing serialized data in database (and both are really not recommended) as there’s no filters that could be used for this.

That being set, I’ve suggested an improvement to our developers. I think it would be a great idea to allow more “flexible” access permission in future so they’ll look into it and consider extending plugin in future.

    Kind regards,
    Adam
