Hi, I’m having problems with those annoying spam-registrations.
I don’t really need users to register on their own, so I have disabled the “everybody can register” under “Settings”. However, the problem persists.
I also tried installing anti-spam plugins and reCaptcha which apparently doesn’t solve anything.

    What to do?

  • Are spammers still creating accounts on your site after disabling registration? Or is a comment spam issue?

Yes, they are still creating accounts on my site, even though user registration is disabled. I usually get one or twice per day.

However, I just realized a thing – the form on https://www.cumulus.dk/register still existed. I’m unsure if the spammers have used this form for their accounts or they were injecting directly into the registration code… but I have deleted the page and waiting to see if it makes a difference.

even though user registration is disabled.

This might have occurred because of a theme/plugin. Keep an eye on that, and if you still get users, you will have to check which theme/plugin is allowing users to register.

OK, thanks for the advice. For the moment, the removal of the registration page seems to have solved it for now, since no new entries has been detected.
