• I am having an issue with categories.

I have a multisite and this issue is only occurring on one of the sites. I have super-admin permissions but cannot delete or edit categories. I can add new categories but receive a “Sorry, you are not allowed to do that” when I try to delete. When I try to edit/update, I get “-1” in red below the category.

Oddly, I can still edit ‘Uncategorized’ without any errors.

I have uninstalled all plugins/, changed themes and reinstalled core WordPress. I was using User Role Editor, which I deactivated and deleted. Now I can delete categories using the bulk edit drop-down but I still cannot edit categories or delete themes using the button.

    Any thoughts?

  • Normally when you delete a plugin, things revert to the way it was before, because that code is no longer executed.

That is a little different when it comes to Role Management plugins, because they make changes to the database and those changes are not reverted when they are deactivated / deleted.

    You could try this plugin:
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/advanced-access-manager/
to see which capabilities are currently assigned to you.

    All the best.

Using AAM, I can see that Admins have manage_categories permissions. And can still perform some management of categories (adding new ones for example) but are limited in other abilities (editing).

AAM allows you to check by user role or by user.
Check that your user caps are the same as the default admin caps?
