• We’re having issues with being able to tab through the modal content for accessibility. Am I missing something or is this a known shortcoming of the plugin?

    Well, I guess it’s known now. ??

I’ll look into that soon, though my schedule is slammed for the foreseeable future with everything going on. I’m responsible for keeping a ton of people connected from a distance.

Happy Easter! Any chance you may have looked at this issue yet?

I have looked into this, and I’m exploring the possibility of fixing it, but the issue is in a utility I use to present the dialog. I’ve reached out to the author of that utility to see if they can help. I’ll let you know what I find out.

Hi Curtis, any update on this? This is for a credit union that uses your plugin, and they are especially concerned with accessibility as in they HAVE to be in compliance. If you don’t think it’s going to happen please let me know as soon as you can so we can make other arrangements.

Well, I really do want to address this, but it’s really out of my hands at the moment.

I use an external library for the modal window, and I have not heard back from the author of that library.

I will renew contact again and see if I have any better luck, but if time is of the essence, I’d recommend that you find a different solution.

I wish I had a different answer for you.

I hope you find the right solution for your client.

Here’s a link to the issue I have now posted on the GitHub page: https://github.com/HTMLGuyLLC/jAlert/issues/66

I’ll respond here if there is any forward progress.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

Hello … Any luck on this @tincabin?

Have the same situation. Wondering if you found another solution of a fix.

    Thank you ??

    Hi @sbernado,

No, not yet, and it looks like the topic has kind of died here. We did try Traction External Links Speed Bump (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/traction-external-links-speed-bump/) with similar issues. Humaan (https://humaan.com/modaal/) claims they have an accessible modal “Modaal” (and there’s an attempt at a plugin on Github), but it appears to have been abandoned years ago. This client is running a Divi theme, so I think our next shot will be some experimenting with Divi’s Overlays plugin. If not that…I guess we’re rolling custom. The issue isn’t going away because our client requires compliance (credit union).

Good luck to you, and feel free to keep in touch on progress. I’ll do the same.

Hi @tincabin – Thank you for the speedy response! You’re awesome ??

I am using Divi too. and for some reason it now appears to be working. Even in the Chrome Inspector, it shows the modal as being accessible. The only thing is the keyboard defaults to the “Cancel” button, versus “Ok”, so the user has to SHIFT+Tab to get there.

I think the reason I thought it failed was I hit tab multiple times, and it almost appears to cache the number of tabs. e.g. I hit tab 3 times, I have to hit SHIFT+Tab 4 times to get to the OK button.

I am also using the Divi Accessibility plugin too – it helps a lot with making Divi compliant.

Hope that helps! Thanks again ?? – scott

Hey @tincabin and @sbernado! I was thinking about this the other day when I did the last update. I’ve left messages at GitHub and the server where the jAlert support is supposed to be and have had no answer. I’m planning on switching out the dialog component for the next version upgrade I do. Do you think SweetAlert2 (https://github.com/sweetalert2/sweetalert2) would fix the compliance issues?

It seems that they have been addressing accessibility for a while.
    https://github.com/sweetalert2/sweetalert2/issues?q=accessibility

If you think that will solve the problem, I’ll work on integrating that for version 1.8.

Hi @cvscvstechcom! Thank you for jumping in. I am not a developer, but from what I’ve read at SweetAlert2, it looks like accessibility is a priority. Nice find. That looks like a winner to me ??

And a BIG THANK YOU to YOU for all of your work, generosity and care. You are appreciated! Thank you for being awesome! – scott
