I want to create my own plugin

  • Hi!
    I’m a student and for an exam task we have to create our own site on WordPress. I have the idea, but I don’t know how am I supposed to create it. I was thinking about a site about services selling where it would be two parts involved: the vendor and the buyer. For example: I am a freelancer and I can use my free time to help someone by shopping for him because he doesn’t have time. I came on this site, I will register myself and I’ll create my own profile where I’ll advertise my abilities and so on. I’ll also say the price per hour or per task. Now, as a buyer, the person who needs someone to make his shopping, will create a profile on this site where he’ll advertise his need or he can simply search someone using the freelancers’s list.
    Also, for the freelancers, I thought about 3 advertising packages offered by my site. These packages are about the number of views per day for the profile of the freelancer. Using one of these, I, as a site, will receive a certain commission from the total earnings the freelancer made.
    I need a plugin that can help me create this thing, but I couldn’t find one that can do all the things I want, so I want to try to create one on my own, but I don’t know how and where should I start.

  • How much PHP do you know? To make something with that complexity, you’ll have to know a fair bit. You’ll also have to do a deep dive into understanding WordPress.

    You could get pretty close to what you want using other plugins and customizing from there. Maybe you think about people as products and then you start an ecommerce site that starts to have the features you are looking for using something like WooCommerce mixed with Gravity Forms or something. Pulling together different things that exist might get you 99% to your goal without writing much or any code and is a great way to start learning how WordPress works.

    Unfortunately, I know nothing about PHP, but I’m willing to learn after I’ll finish my studies, I’m getting more interested in programming.
    Until then I’ll try to use the other method and I’ll see what it comes.
