• I have been using WooCommerce PayPal Pro Payment Gateway for about a year without issue. After an update to WooCommerce last week, this module has been generating errors. When you go to checkout, enter your credit card info if shows an error message “an error in transaction…” and stays on the checkout page. However in Woocommerce orders there is an order created with the status of Cancelled. In PayPal, the charge has been recorded as successful. No emails are sent to the customer.

In the logs you see that the transaction went thro and that PayPal sent back a correct response saying approved with all the details, but nothing is recorded in WooCommerce.

If I do a transaction using the PayPal direct standard checkout, the order is correctly updated in Woocommerce and the order is displayed as complete.

    I have disabled this module

But if you check your logs for PaPal you’ll probably see that PayPal di=d in fact reply with the correct response. Ijust isn’t being sent to Woo.

I have done a test with WooCommerce v4.0.1 and the latest version of this addon. The transaction still processes fine for me.

Can you please make sure the following has been done on your site?

Upgraded the WooCommerce database after the latest update? They made a lot of changes in the last upgrade so it is important that you upgrade the database and stuff. See if there is any notices in the admin interface of WooCommerce.

Empty your browser cache and refresh it to make sure all the new JavaScript and CSS files are loading. So nothing is cached.

I have created a clone of the site and running in sandbox and get the fails. I turned off all plugins except Woo, used the WP2020 theme and still get:
This transaction cannot be processed. The merchant’s account is not able to process transactions. (Transaction Error) something is wrong
The order is recorded in the orders but with this message:
Paypal Credit Card Payment Failed with message: ‘This transaction cannot be processed. The merchant’s account is not able to process transactions.’

Now in my sandbox account in the test card I see no notification at all.

If I place the order using the PayPal Express Sandbox all is good.
If you want to use my test site, send me a place to PM you and I will send credentials.

I have the same error. Been at it all week with woocommerce and Paypal. PayPal has confirmed this is an error that is keeping the plug-in in a sandbox status.

I’m getting a cURL error in my logs: “Error cURL error 28”

Looking into it now. Latest version of WordPress and older version of WooCommerce (can’t upgrade WooCommerce due to compatibility issues).

Give PayPal a call and see if your account is active. That ended up being our issue and they didn’t tell us they deactivated it until we called.

Our account is active and no issues with PayPal. It’s the plug-in.

The account is active. The account is over 10 years old and is a PRO account. This error is created by the plugin.
