• I bought the WP-Members plugin from this site wpmembershipservice.com but they now asking me FTP login/pass and Admin login/pass.
I don’t understand if they are just a scam site or not.

After I research I figured out they are just an installation service company.
So, Is WP-member plugin they want to install the same I can download from free here?
Can I trust them giving them my login and passwords?

Thanks.. I’m new to wordpress and I think they ripped me off. ??

  • Well this plugin can be installed via the Plugins->Add new feature:

    https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-members/

And also, this plugin have a lot of powerful features, you can easily understand it’s not free WP Members plugin.

Well I understand that and I realized the free wp-member was very basic.. It’s just the thing of asking FTP username and password and Admin user / password sounded weird to me. There should be another way to do it.

Because, it’s an installation service. If you are new to WordPress, this is advantage for you. You don’t need to worry about plugin because We’ll install and activate for you safely.

Ok I sent you my info, but it’s test site. I want to test it and learn about the plugin before I try for real. I can switch the domain later, right?

    Sure, you can…

So this plugin is not the WP-Members plugin I linked to above?

    No Michael, it’s not.

okosto, you might want to reconsider the name of your plugin. Since we released WP-Members in 2006 (the free plugin that Michael referenced above), several other “commercial” plugins have been released with similar names, WP Member (2 of these), WP Member Site, and yours, which apparently has the same name.

Naturally, when someone comes to www.ads-software.com for support, it is assumed that they are speaking of the free, open source version that is available at https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-members/.
You could save everyone a lot of confusion by changing the name to something dissimilar.

My plugin is finally installed, on the overall,wpmembershipservice.com need to work on their poor cs. Although I can still recommend their service but expect them to perform better.

Olatrop good to hear… I have a few questions myself about this plugin… are they reselling a plugin already out there? If so which one is it? I think this reseller, or developer… not sure what it is would be GREAT to work with. They give video tutorials and stuff, but I would like to know if you can link to an affilate system with their plugin and what is the actual plugin??? Its confusing that they have commision URLS to other membership programs on their site, but I really would like to learn more about them.

Its extremely dishonest to create a plugin then give the name of one that already exists that everyone thinks is free. And if it takes 3 service tickets and a post @ www.ads-software.com to get installation, that’s speaks volumes about the developer.

If someone installs a plugin they will usually require both admin access and ftp access. (one for uploading, the other for activating, testing and customizing)

But if someone has to deceive me to get my money – well, I don’t want them to have access to either.

    Rename your Commercial plugin.

Michael thanks. People need to know there are lots of plugins that are free, that can be installed alone.

The plugin they install is actually “your membership” They seem like they are very into reselling that product, but they are unresponsive

Glenn – The “original WP-Members plugin from SmartMediaPro” is not “the original.” As I mentioned above, I released “the original” WP-Members four years ago (2006) and it is available through the WordPress plugin repository at https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/wp-members where it was approved for inclusion in 2007.

There have been several commercial plugins floating around with the same or very similar names, but as near as I can tell, none of those came on the scene before 2008. Additionally, I have looked at a couple of them and they are NOT open source which is a clear violation of the GPL licensing of WordPress itself.

While I have nothing against these plugins from a feature and functionality standpoint, I do find it bothersome that they (1) are not GPL and (2) are hijacking the name of a freely available plugin that predates their release by 2-3 years.
