    Hi,
I just upgraded to WordPress 5.4 and have immediately noticed an issue.

I operate out of html mode. When I click the “link” button and paste in the link, WordPress is now creating a double link. It repeats both the text of the hyperlinked word and the url. It’s very annoying and forcing me to delete one of the links each time.

    Here’s an example:

I typed “word” and clicked “link” and put in wordpressproblem.com as the link. It gave me the link twice in a row.

    <a href="https://wordpressproblem.com" rel="noopener noreferrer"
    target="_blank">word</a><a href="https://wordpressproblem.com" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">word</a>

This keeps happening to me. Any suggestions for what to do?

    Thank you

  • It’s not clear which editor you’re using. in the new editor (Gutenberg) there is no “link” button, so I’ll assume You’re using the classic editor. In the classic editor, I failed to replicate your issue as shown in the following screencast 24-second clip: https://youtu.be/uDv3YDt-XbM

Please provide a screenshot of your issue.

I also recommend installing the Health Check and enabling troubleshooting mode to see if the issue persists. The Health check plugin allows you to disable plugins for yourself while keeping them active for non-admin visitors.

I wanted to add a screenshot initially but couldn’t find how to do it. Here’s a link to a screenshot

This is in classic editor, and like I said, any time I try to create a link, it creates two of them. It’s definitely a bug and very annoying.

Please confirm you’ve tried it with troubleshooting mode on? If the problem persists with troubleshooting mode on please check if there are any issues highlighted in wp-admin under Tools > Site Health.

    Hi,
I’ve been using WordPress for 13+ years but am not familiar with what “troubleshooting mode” is. Can you let me know how to activate that mode?

    Thank you

Update: This is an issue with the All in One SEO plugin. The plugin support says they are working on a fix

Glad to see your issue was resolved. ??

For future reference the Health Check plugin was made by www.ads-software.com community volunteers and allows you to enable troubleshooting mode where you can disable plugins on the admin side while they remain active for frontend visitors.
