Author Links not working

  • On my site when linking to author pages using the_author_post_link() only the authors without a space in there name work.

    If I visit https://site.com/author/timgun I get a page
    but if I visit https://site.com/author/jerry rice I get a 404

    I check the user_nicename in the database and some are store with spaces and some without spaces.

    Does anyone know if wordpress stores the user_nicename with a space by default?
