    Hi – A question on SEO best practice.

    Before installing Rank Math, when creating a new page/blog post, the title automatically becomes the H1 and meta title – in essence its functionality is for 3 purposes.

    After installing Rank Math, it appears that the page/blog title is no longer of relevance as Rank Math seems to over-ride this.

    The question regarding best practice – should my page/blog title be the same as my meta title in Rank Math in order to be Google compliant?

    Hello @petroc

    Thank you for your message.

    Usually, yes, one should keep the page & meta title the same. You can use a different one for the social networks but for the search engines, we have seen better time spent on sites with the same titles.

    Also, while we are at it, we highly recommend going through the following guides to set up the plugin completely and correctly:

    Thank you for your prompt reply.

    In order to keep the page/blog title the same as the meta title, the issue would be not being able to use Rank Math shortcodes (ie %currentyear%) in page/blog titles.

    How do you suggest this be done – perhaps a plugin?

    Hello @petroc

    The title displayed on the page in the heading is managed by the theme. You can change it and use Rank Math’s title function to show the meta title by using the following code:
    \RankMath\Paper\Paper::get()->get_title();

    You might want to ask your theme developer if you are unsure how to use it.

    Hope that helps. Thank you.
