I’ve set the plugin up to only make a news XML. When I open the link, I see my latest article in the feed.
However, when I go into Google Publisher, it says that my feed is empty and no article can be shown??

I am aware that this is not 100% plugin-related, but there might be some with the experience to tell me what I’m doing wrong. Google itself is not of any help…

  • Hi, can you share a link? And with “feed” do you mean /sitemap-news.xml or /feed/ ?

Hi, the feed I believe I should use is: https://carcarenederland.nl/sitemap-news.xml

    This is what Google says:

P.s. I forgot to mention that I have been trying to sort this out since the article was placed on wednesday. I also tried last week, just after another article was placed.

OK, I see what you mean.

You need to submit the sitemap-news.xml in your Google Search Console account in the Sitemaps section. It will allow you to monitor the sitemap performance.

Then in your Publisher Center, you need to submit an RSS feed, which could be your main feed on https://carcarenederland.nl/feed/

Also make sure you set your feeds to include the complete post content. Excerpts are not accepted by Google News…

Thanks, Sitemap is now added in Search Console. The /feed/ alrady shows the full content, so that should be good.

Only thing I haven’t figured out is why Google Publishes won’t accept my /feed/. If I enter this, it still says I have no articles, even when I switch from “feed” to “Web location”.

That is indeed strange. Your RSS feed seems to be valid and certainly not empty. I can only suggest you wait for the GN spider to catch up…

Thanks for your time, even though this isn’t strictly plugin related.

Did you manage to solve the problem?

Eventually yes. I found a work-around in a paid feed-optimizer that takes my direct RSS feed and allows me to add or remove items based on filters. This eventually gave me a feed that could be used with Google Publisher.

This plugin never worked for me. The data was incorrect, out of date, not showing images or text or other random stuff. Tried it for a few weeks, but every day something else was wrong. I thought I just did it wrong, but once I entered my new feed, everything worked fine and has been working fine since.

Can you tell me the name of the paid service?

    Yes, Feedoptimise

Hi all, please note that this plugin does not manage or generate the feed. It’s the main WordPress feed, and should not contain errors or cause any problems in Google News or any other feed reader.

If you do find that your feed(s) create errors, then you might want to try and find out where they are coming from. It might be another plugin that adds stuff to your posts which is not necessarily RSS valid…

A good tool to check your feeds for invalid markup can be found on https://validator.w3.org/feed/

I don’t have a single plugin that does anything with the RSS feed. Your plugin just didn’t work for me.
I appreciate you putting time in this, which is why I didn’t want to give a review or comment further on this topic. It is free, so expectations are “low”.

Your plugin just didn’t work for me.

    Sure, no problem.

I’m just stating that this plugin cannot be responsible for any errors in your RSS feed. You seem to be under the impression that the plugin was responsible but whatever you expected from it, it is NOT designed alter your standard WordPress feeds.

So if your RSS feed had errors, they either came from something else OR there is a bug that needs to be addressed… In that last case, I’d need more information to investigate the issue further.
