• When I want to create a new page. under Attributes, there is not a “Parent” option available (no matter how many themes I try). How do I make Parent pages available?

  • You can’t choose a parent attribute for a page… you choose other pages to be a particular pages children, thereby making it the parent.

Thank you. But what I am trying to describe is that nowhere do I have the option to create that hierarchy. Nowhere is there the dropdown box to select a page to be a parent for children pages

Sigh. By making OTHER pages the children of a page… it IS the parent. You CAN NOT just choose for a page to be a parent. A person isn’t a parent before they have children are they? No they are not. Same goes for WP pages!

Thank you for your patience. I realize I am asking this wrong. So please let me try to explain: Let’s say I have the foloowing 3 pages set up: Dogs, Domestic Dogs, and Wild Dogs. I would like to make Domestic Dogs & Wild Dogs children of Dogs. When I go to those 2 pages, in the Attributes section, there is no drop down menu for which to assign these children a parent (Dogs). I apologize for being obtuse, but would really appreciate your help in telling me what I am missing here! Thank you.

Is there a Parent section in the Attribute module? If so, then maybe you can’t see the dropdown. Collapse the Attribute module then drag and drop it under the left (content) column then uncollapse it and see if the pulldown is visible.

Yes, there is a Parent section in Attributes. I just tried what you suggested and again, the Parent section has only the blurb about the hierarchy, but no drop down……

When editing a page, it will put “Main Page (no parent)” in the Parent field. If you just click on that field it pulls down.

If that doesn’t work, deactivate all plugins, switch to the WordPress Default theme and see if it works.

If that doesn’t work, try accessing the site from a different browser or computer.

Thank you for your suggestions. Even if I am editing a page, there is no Parent field!!
I have not activated any plugins. I have tried it from the WordPress Default theme and it doesn’t work. And I have tried it from a different computer & browser! No where is there an option to assign a page to a Parent. And I feel stuck to move on until I can get this.

And you do have other Pages created?

Yes. I want to make some of my pages children of another page but that option is not available under Attributes or in the Edit function.

    Link to see the site?

I just realized that I’m a complete idiot. Seriously, there has been something wrong with my brain lately. I’m sorry martrob, it’s the exact opposite of what I said. Duh. I don’t know what I was thinking :o/

I just experienced the exact same problem. For me it was solved by deactivating the ‘Exclude Pages from Navigation’ plugin.

    The dropdown showed up again.

@martrob: I’m sorry I can’t help you. I still wanted to post this for people who experienced the same problem as me.

Did this ever get resolved because I am having the same problem. Can see the attributes but there is no dropdown.

Just figured it out. The Parent page must be set to public.
