Hi. Thanks for helping with this. Much appreciated!

    I’m a bit of a novice I’m afraid. Actually, a total novice.

None of my ‘pages’ will actually update/publish after I’ve edited them.

I think the format changed at some point in the last few months. The ‘editing’ view / look of the page whilst editing has changed. It now shows the whole page with all the links and photos in etc – whereas before I’m sure I was able to simply edit the main block /body of text, for the home page.

Apparently I can’t update to the latest WordPress version:

“You cannot update because WordPress 5.4.1 requires PHP version 5.6.20 or higher. You are running version 5.4.45.”

When I return to a page and try to edit it / publish it, the text I want is still there – it’s just that only old text is visible on the actual page when it’s viewed. Very annoying.

I’m trying to let customers know the bakery is open again!

Thanks for your tips / suggestions.

    Jack

This error message says it all.

Before updating to the latest WordPress version, first update PHP to version 5.6.20 or higher.

Please contact your hosting provider for assistance about updating the PHP.

Thanks so much for helping with this. Really good of you.

I don’t know anything about hosting etc but will look into it.

Is this definitely the issue though? As even ‘previews’ won’t show my amended edits…..

And if it is a so-called PHP issue, which my host can help with, what’s the procedure, and is this a normal problem people encounter?

    Cheers again!

    Thanks again for the reply.

I have just logged on to my host NamesCo and updated to PHP 7.3.

I have also updated WordPress to 5.4.1.

However, I’m still unable to successfully edit my pages. My changes simply won’t publish.

Just old text when I go to view the ‘updated’ / ”published’ page….

    So the problem persists…

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional feature under create a new menu position Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.
There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.www.ads-software.com/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/

if the above steps don’t help, try Troubleshooting with your browser: Your browser can help you identify JavaScript issues or conflicts and this article can assist you in doing that diagnosis. This could help identify Visual Editor issues as well.

Thanks so much. I installed the Health Check, and then updated some themes, removed some plugins etc – and now it’s all working fine. I am now seeing the old page editor format I am used to, and edits are getting published. Thanks again, much appreciated.
