Canoncial Link after installation Yoast SEO

Hi @superpos,

Upon checking the page source of your landing page https://www.superpos.de/, I can see the canonical set to URL https://www.superpos.de/superpos/. Can you please edit your landing page, go to Yoast SEO metabox > Canonical URL and check if there’s that URL set as canonical URL? If so, remove it and update the page.

Further, I can see 301 redirection of https://www.superpos.de/superpos/ being created by WordPress to the main URL. Please check your .htaccess other any such canonical plugin installed.

thanx for your answer.
No ther is noch Canoncial URL set to our landing page.
We work with the Theme Enfold, there you can say what Page is the start/landing page. Could that be the reason?
What can I do?

The is no other plugin in for SEO.

@superpos That’s possible, have you tried temporarily resetting the theme to a default such as TwentyNineteen and see whether the issue still occurs?

@superpos Question for you. Are you using a homepage that’s “static” for your site that happens to be named “superpos”. If it is, try saving the page again, if you haven’t recently. Just click the update button and see if that clears the incorrect canonical.

I ran into something weird yesterday because I have my WP install in a subfolder and the subfolder was showing up in the Canonical link AFTER I updated the setting for the site to show up at the root.

A question to Yoast support @superpos and @devnihil, or a theory here. Is the canonical link cached in the meta-information on save, even if we can’t see it?

I set up a new site yesterday where I installed WP in a subfolder, published a few pages/posts, and then updated the domain URL to point to the root. So the subfolder got stuck in the canonical URL. It looks like once I saved the posts again (after manually setting the canonical URL in a bit of a panic) the issue resolved itself. Basically I made a site change that would after the canonical after a post/page was published but the post/page didn’t reflect that change until I resaved those posts (or that’s my theory at least).

@cabatint Thanks for your tip, but it doesn’t fix it. it’s the same that there ist the canoncial links shows in the meta data.

We are not sure why that is happening. We suggest three actions

1. Go to Settings-General and make sure the site and WordPress address fields are the same. If they are not the same please edit the fields to make sure they are. Note, that we recommend taking a backup. Your host provider can help. If those fields are unable to be edited we suggest contacting your host provider.

2.?If you use the Yoast Helper Tool does the issue resolve? Please try the steps below:
– i. Install & activate the Yoast Test Helper plugin:?https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/yoast-test-helper/
– ii. Go to Tools -> Yoast Test
– iii. Locate the Yoast SEO section and select the “Reset indexables tables & migrations” button
– iv. See if the issue resolves

3. Perform a conflict check as described here https://yoast.com/help/how-to-check-for-plugin-conflicts/ and see if the canonical issue resolves. You can use the HealthCheck plugin which will not change everything on the page for your users. You will see the changes but not your users.

3. have to try. The are no changes on my Homepage, it is only in the background!?

With 2, no there are not expected to be any changes on your site.

With 3, the HealthCheck plugin does not make permanent changes on your homepage.

So I tested point 2, it works. But the wrong Link comes back in 1 or 2 days.
What can I do?

That’s odd. We don’t expect this to be changed after you did the reindex with the Help Tester plugin. Did you update the page or did anything else with the page in those 2 days that might have caused the canonical to be changed again?

If you didn’t, we expect this to be a bug or conflict with either your theme and/or other plugins. However, we just checked your homepage https://www.superpos.de/ and do see the correct canonical without the page slug after your domain.
