Image block is nowhere to be found. It has completely disappeared. Can’t add an image because, hello, no image block. How do I restore it?

This may be a plugin or theme conflict. Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

If you can install plugins, install and activate “Health Check”: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/
It will add some additional feature under create a new menu position Tools > Site Health.
On its troubleshooting tab, you can Enable Troubleshooting Mode. This will disable all plugins, switch to a standard WordPress theme (if available), allow you to turn your plugins on and off and switch between themes, without affecting normal visitors to your site. This allows you to test for various compatibility issues.
There’s a more detailed description about how to use the Health Check plugin and its Troubleshooting Mode at https://make.www.ads-software.com/support/handbook/appendix/troubleshooting-using-the-health-check/

No joy. Disabled all plugins, switched to TwentyTwenty theme. Image block is still missing. This is very bizarre.

I guess the question at this point is, if I reinstall WordPress will that restore it? Is there a better way to do so?

When you say “Image Block”, are you referring to the new Block Editor (Gutenberg)?

Yes, block editor. Cannot insert an image because there is NO IMAGE BLOCK. It’s not in frequently used blocks, not in common blocks, not found in some weird place when IMAGE is searched for. I do not find it here or there, I do not find it anywhere. If I could upload a screenshot I would. I’m not talking about a missing image inside an image block, I’m talking about a missing image block within Gutenberg.

I’m going to move this topic to the dedicated support forum of Gutenberg (aka, Block editor) plugin so the plugin’s developers and support community can help you with this.

RESOLVED: Tools/Block Manager/Common Blocks. Somehow Image Block was not checked. Simple but deadly.

@futureexpat Thank you so, so much. This has been the same problem I’ve had so I would revert back to the classic editor. I appreciate you posting the solution – I now have the Image block.
