How cheap can WordPress hosting be?

Before you say anything, I’ve searched in Google and have yet to find the answer I’m looking for.

Let me start by saying I’m a fairly broke college student. I want to switch from Blogger to WordPress, that’s fairly self-explanatory. I already paid for a domain through Blogger but am not sure what I need to do first to switch to WordPress. Is it more expensive to go through WordPress? I paid $10/year for mine over at Blogger. Is it a lot of hefty work?
