just ran an update via WP back-end on Appointment, now running 2.8.1 with the child theme Appointment Green Version: 1.1.2 and all the data on the home page went missing, images and other things on various pages are also gone (i.e. the site logo, header images, etc)

    WTF

What happened and how can we get this fixed?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hi
    Sorry for your inconvenience.
Let’s take step by step process.
According to the latest WordPress guideline.
We have managed all home page sections via webriti companion plugin.
    Download and install the plugin.
With the help of this plugin, we can manage all home page sections via customizer.
Let me know for any confusion.

    Thanks

Thus site is a mostly static website. We have been using this theme / child theme for a number of years without any additional plugin.. Even with the plugin all of the home page data is missing..

So, again, how do we fix this mess? Where is my home page data? Etc..?

    Thanks

Same issue here – reverting the theme to an earlier version fixes this feature bug

@bhsmw where did you get the previous version?

Had to get it from backups – stupidly did not realise it was broken until someone pointed out that the front page “carousel” is blank. As the web site is a side project wasn’t a huge deal but took hours to figure out what was wrong.

@ppnsteve I uploaded the theme v 2.7.8 here if you need it.

It appears the owner of the plugin changed – looking at the licence files, at least. This explains a lot!

reverting to a previous version didn’t work either.. something in the last update really broke this site.. none of the customized front/home page elements are available and using the ‘green’ child theme, not even shown in the WP theme customizer.
We are not happy and the client is even more so.

@bhsmw we will try the 2.7.8 version next.. hopefully their is a fix in the newer versions at some point.

    @bhsmw thanks.
@akhlesh-nagar we are getting the white screen of death..
    WP debug shows:
    Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function appointment_theme_setup_data() in /home/gocep/public_html/wp-content/themes/appointment-green/header.php:8 Stack trace: #0 /home/gocep/public_html/wp-includes/template.php(723): require_once() #1 /home/gocep/public_html/wp-includes/template.php(672): load_template('/home/gocep/pub...', true) #2 /home/gocep/public_html/wp-includes/general-template.php(41): locate_template(Array, true) #3 /home/gocep/public_html/wp-content/themes/appointment/page.php(2): get_header() #4 /home/gocep/public_html/wp-includes/template-loader.php(106): include('/home/gocep/pub...') #5 /home/gocep/public_html/wp-blog-header.php(19): require_once('/home/gocep/pub...') #6 /home/gocep/public_html/index.php(17): require('/home/gocep/pub...') #7 {main} thrown in /home/gocep/public_html/wp-content/themes/appointment-green/header.php on line 8

@ppnsteve Did downgrading to 2.7.8 work for you? After disabling all plugins, eventually worked out the problem, but this is not the way to make custom themes.

@bhsmw hmmm.. nope, I now get a php error as noted above.
What did you determine the problem was, if you ever did?

My site has been working fine on this theme for a number of years, only breaking with the 2.8.1 update (though there have been times when an update deletes the header images and similar things)

hi, i have fix the problem for my site , i had to create a new dummy home page ,

@omelin Hi, thanks. I have tried that as well. I can’t say if it works as I’m still trying to figure out the fatal php error that pops up killing any page load.

    Hi, ppnsteve

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

In your child theme directory look for the file header.php, just rename it to header1.php. That will run up your site again. However, may be you observe some layout changes but proper update will make it better.

    Thanks

@ppnsteve I had to run through the white screen troubleshooting process: disable all plugins then theme to isolate one causing the issue. White screen was being caused by Appointment Theme.

I then reverted the theme update from backups – problem was fixed.

I have since installed the Webriti Companion on my sandbox to see if it fixes the problem – it doesn’t and the homepage is still blank. The above post may be why.
