Random gallery with limited number of photos

  • Hello all,

    I am looking for a gallery plug-in that can show a limited number or random images.

    None of the plug-ins I’ve seen so far seem to have the ability to limit the number of images shown.

    The idea is to have 4 random thumbnails at the bottom of a page that come from a larger selection of images. This way there are new images there on every page load.

    I hope somebody here might know of any gallery plug-in that can do this (or some other way around this!).

    Not gonna lie, that actually does sound fairly doable. That may end up being a very custom thing though right now if it isn’t already.

    It may very well depend on how the gallery is created too. If it’s the core way it would be easy as the function get_post_galleries() is one of the first ones that comes to mind for that. I only know that one because I did a random post on getting the gallery count on a given post.

    I was hoping this was simple enough.. I’ve been working a lot with CMS Made Simple and it’s very simple there to limit the amount of images shown from a gallery and display them randomly… I was hoping it was just as easy to do in WordPress.

    I’ll have a look if it is possible to limit the page size (i.e. number of thumbnails) in a gallery and don’t display the pagination. This would be a crude way of getting the same thing.
