• I have installed the XML Sitemap Generator plugin and everything seems to be working. It says Google and the others were successfully notified.

I was advised by someone in another forum that after installing the XML Sitemap plugin, that I should then manually ping Google. Is this true or does the plugin automatically do that for me?

  • All you need to do it create your Google Webmaster account and add the sitemap.xml you created from the Plugin to the Webmasters.

    That’s it!

I tried to do that and for the life of me, I can’t seem to get it to verify my site. I’m really new at this and maybe I just don’t know what I’m doing. This is my first WP blog. To this point I’ve only designed websites with Homestead Sitebuilder, so I know very little about web design.

The instructions for the meta tag verification looked a little scary to me, so I tried the html following some instructions I found online. Just set up a new page in WP and pasted the code into the page. Didn’t work. Do you know where I might find some detailed instructions on the html verification?

You dont have to paste any code in WP. In fact for HTML verification, WordPress is not even required. Just copy a Blank File with the specific name eg: ge03283jf93m.html to the root of your Web Server that Google gives you.

Google Will verify it the moment you click, Finish – Verify Now.
