• Hello there! Bit of wordpress newbie here but while doing some updates to my wordpress site, I randomly started seeing an error page with the following message: Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error: Could not connect to MySQL.

I know that the SQL database is up and running because I have logged into phpMyAdmin and am able to connect succesfully but I cannot seem to access the admin site. The user site is working fine at https://htownbars.com/wp/.

Any help resolving this issue would be greatly appreciated!

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Howdy!

What updates did you do? Was it a plugin update, theme, or core?

Do you have a backup from which you can restore to?

It was a theme update! Unfortunately don’t have a backup to restore to ??

Any ideas how to resolve? I can still login to the Admin side of my site at https://htownbars.com/wp/admin but everytime I try to access the user facing site I get this error – Error displaying the error page: Application Instantiation Error: Could not connect to MySQL.

I know that my database is still up and running because I am able to connect to it with myPhpAdmin but I keep getting that same error no matter what I try. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You might be able to reach out to the theme’s author to see if they have a previous version of the theme. Maybe that?

I’m not sure if switching the theme is a super viable solution but that is at least a temporary way of also testing to see if it really was the theme update.
