Titles Beside Thumbnails

Hi @captaincurls, I looked at what Google cached for your Catching Fire post, and saw a clue.

YARPP’s loads some CSS code dynamically on this page: https://introvertedreader.com/wp-content/plugins/yarpp/includes/styles_thumbnails.css.php?width=120&height=120&ver=5.1.9

But as you can see, if you view that file now, instead of seeing CSS code, you get redirected. So those styles are now missing, which makes the related posts look all jumbled.

I’m guessing a security plugin, or your host, recently added a new setting that is doing that. Did you recently update a security plugin?

I just added a security plugin a couple of days ago. Is there anything I can do to make this work again?

Ah, good to know. It sounds like that security plugin is what’s interfering. (To be honest, it’s a justifiable what they’re doing; the bit of code they’re blocking from YARPP is a pretty old way of doing things. We may need to replace it.)

Aha! That was the smoking gun, it turns out.
Sucuri has a “Hardening” setting called “Block PHP Files in WP-CONTENT Directory” that you need to disable in order for YARPP’s dynamic CSS to get loaded.

Glad to hear that resolved the issue!
I’ve recorded an internal issue regarding this, because I’m sure plenty of others have had this same problem but not asked or found a solution. But I can’t give a timeline on when we’ll change it, especially because I’m not sure if the original developer had a good reason for doing it the way they did. But improving the default thumbnails view is one of our upcoming priorities.
If this thread is still open, I’ll add an update here when there’s any news.
