I got no response. Does this mean I can’t turn off comments and pings by default?

Oh, from what said in the first post, it sounds like you WANT us to ignore it. Well, If you want to turn trackbacks and comments off by default for future posts, go to Options/Discussions and uncheck both “Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)” and “Allow people to post comments on the article”. However, you will have to go back and manually disable trackbacks and comments for each past article.

If you want to truley and entirely disable any means what-so-ever of leaving a comment or trackback (thus avoiding the step of editing each past article), then delete the wp-comments-post.php and wp-trackback.php files.

Thank you MacManX. I re-read my post and saw what you meant. LOL! I only meant that my post was succinct if you ignored my stating so. Web humor: difficult concept.
