• I am helping a local charity organization supportted by oxfam

I made some changes in the general section of the admin page, it was where you can change the blog address. I changed the blog address to the address of another page on the same site (I did this so this was the 1st page anyone saw).

it seemed to run fine yesterday but today I can not login into the admin page and the when I try to go to the homepage, it just hangs, nothing happens.

can anybody help? what can I do to resolve this?

    many thanks in advance

this is the error message I get, after I type in the username and pass and press enter

    Firefox can’t find the file at jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/chrome/en-US.jar!/locale/browser-region/region.propertiestruepalestine.com.

ok not sure what the heck is going on, may be someone has got logins to my site but the following error has just appeared

Warning: require(/www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-settings.php on line 246

    help

Ummm, right. There’s possibly more than one issue here.

What happens if you try and log in with a different browser?

    (@therealhyper)

    i have just noticed ‘<?php
    // Silence is golden.
    ?>’

    in the index.php file

their is no other text apart from this in that, index.php file

is this meant to be like this?

hi, i have tried i.e and firefox, but get the same error message

‘Warning: require(/www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-settings.php on line 246’

That might be normal, but it depends on which index.php file you’re looking at. In sub-folders, like your plugins folder that file is put there to prevent the directory contents being listed.

I meant when you tried to login with IE… what happens? The “Firefox can’t find the file at…” looks like a browser issue y’see. Or are you not getting that message any more on Firefox either?

    Thread Starter therealhyper

    (@therealhyper)

that message appears in this index.php file

    xxxxxxx.com/web/wp-content/index.php

    is this normal?

I can now no longer view the admin page or the home page

    in firefox I get the following error when trying to open the admin and homepage ;
Warning: require(/www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-settings.php on line 246

in i.e I the exact same message as above.

    what could be causing this?

Download a fresh copy of WordPress and unzip it to your hard drive:
    https://www.ads-software.com/download/

Open up your preferred FTP program.

Delete the wp-admin and wp-includes folders. Then, making sure you’re in auto-mode, re-upload the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from the fresh copy of WordPress you’ve just unzipped.

Then delete the wordpress files in the root directory, except for the wp-config.php file and re-upload the fresh copies to replace them.

At no point touch your wp-content folder or your wp-config.php file!

If you need fuller instructions for a manual upgrade, you can find them here:
    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Upgrading_WordPress

the index.php is supposed to look like that.. have you tried other browsers. if its still not working, then i think that you may have an issue with a plugin malfunction at best. reload a fresh copy of WP. that might take care of it..

if I reload word press as per above, will this affect the theme??

and I dont have anything backed up, my web designer who was contracted for the work, let me down big time and I am having to help out the guys.

thanks for you support so far.

No, your theme is stored in your wp-content folder. And as I said above… don’t touch that.

get your database backed up first ..at any cost! do that before you do anything else…

    (@therealhyper)

OK, will give that a shot, but this is the error message, is this a common error message, and what is normally the cause
Warning: require(/www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-includes/compat.php) [function.require]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /www/sites/lcn/www.truepalestine.com/web/wp-settings.php on line 246
